Associated Press. posted April 21, 2012 at 2:00PM EDT | 27 comments Nicki Minaj explains a voice in her head made her leave Twitter, as well as a slang lesson for her latest hit. Curiosity about Nicki Minaj abandoning Twitter has apparently caught on overseas, as the Young Money rapper broached the subject on a British talk show. "A voice in my head told me to delete Twitter, and that's what I did," explained Nicki on "The Graham Norton Show." When asked who her 11 million followers will follow now, Nicki replied, "I hope they'll wait for me," seemingly implying that she would return to the wildly popular social networking platform."I know they will." Nicki also discussed her song, "Beez In The Trap." "It just means, 'I am always...' you know, that's our slang way of saying, 'I beez doing such-and-such-and-such.' So it's really like, 'I am always in the trap.' Now, the trap, ladies and gentlemen, relates to anywhere where you get your money." |

Born to be ChampionsThe Grand National Champions (GNC), Noah, Phil, Alex, and Twosy, an Indianapolis based band, graced the stage with their presence for the first time about four years ago at Locals Only- an Indianapolis art and music pub. What’s more interesting than a cover band covering their own original songs? Probably the story behind the idea. While many may not immediately understand what it is they’re witnessing, they cannot deny that it is unique and entertaining.
“It’s a combination of rock and theatrics with a few other genres of music,” said band guitarist Noah. Lead Vocalist Phil, describes it as “mosque pop.” The story of how they were conceived is quite simple. There is this goddess that comes to earth every 1,000 years. A group of people are called unknowingly but don’t know why they leave everything to migrate to this one place and play music. There they become the Grand National Champions who worship the goddess of Knack Rim, music from all of space and time. Intricate story, simple concept. They take on these different identities as bands covering the band GNC. Because they don’t always have the time to explain the intricacies of their ingenious idea, they rely on their performance to do most of the explaining. Although they might make it look easy, these young men work hard, using most of Phil’s poetry to create songs. Twosy, the drummer, adds his own hip-hop flair and guitarists Alex and Noah tie it all together. Not to mention they’re all Yat’s Boys. Performing at multiple venues including basement shows, house parties, Yat’s, The Melody Inn, and the Green Lounge, they’re off to a great start in the world of exposure. They have the potential to make it far. With favorite artists like Billy Joel, James Brown, David Burns, and many more, the group has combined their ideas and talents for this unique art, hoping that it will inspire people to do what they love as well. “Edgar Allen Poe said that the most important things are effects. It doesn’t matter how much you say it’s how you say it,” said Phil. I couldn’t agree more with this. GNC, has just completed an EP of 9 songs and will be having a record release party coming soon. Interesting group, but nonetheless talented at what they do. I’m excited to see more from them. By: Aundalyse Parquet |
